Of late, I’ve understood that life is a DIY (Do It Yourself) project. The sooner you realise this, the better it is. The following excerpt from Sahil Bloom’s blog 1 reinforced my belief in the same:
“You’re going to fail.
It’s going to hurt.
You’ll feel lost.
You’ll feel confused.
You’ll feel betrayed.
Complaining, blaming, pointing fingers—none of it will get you anywhere worth going.
You are in control.
Of everything.
It’s all on you.
Nobody is coming to save you.
But you are entirely capable of climbing back all on your own.
Of doing hard things.
Of figuring it out.
Of meeting your responsibilities with energy and enthusiasm.
Of squeezing everything you want out of this life.”
This reminds me of a quote:
“It takes half your life before you discover that life is a do-it-yourself project” - Napoleon Hill (an American self-help author)
I’m atleast happy that I figured this out before I hit the halfway mark! With the average life expectancy for a guy in India being around 69.3 years 2, I guess I still have some time to get my DIY project of life in order!
Talking about life expectancy, it’s an appreciating figure. This means that it has increased over time, reflecting improvements in healthcare, nutrition, sanitation, and overall living conditions.
But I can’t help pondering if we’re quietly heading in the opposite direction. With 10-minute delivery, everything-at-your-door convenience, chemically/artificially grown vegetables, engineered food, processed and junk food, increasing pollution, deteriorating air quality and a sedentary lifestyle that barely requires us to move…
But, that’s a topic for debate and I would refrain from diving into it here.
